WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A MASON?

To become a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, a candidate must be at least 18 years old, of good moral character, and hold a belief in a Supreme Being, as atheists and agnostics are ineligible. Furthermore, your choice to apply must stem entirely from your own “free will and accord,” meaning you enter without coercion and must formally petition a local Masonic Lodge. Please keep in mind that Masons are strictly prohibited from soliciting new members.

Below are the general steps that a man seeking membership in Freemasonry may consider. This will help you get a better understanding of the membership process.

DISCOVER MORE ABOUT OUR BROTHERHOOD: If you happen to know a Freemason, please feel free to ask him about our fraternity—we always welcome conversations with anyone interested in Masonry. If you do not currently know a member, you are warmly invited to visit or contact our Lodge whenever you wish; all of our contact information is conveniently located on this website. You may also choose to complete the Petition Form below and submit it to us online.

PLAN YOUR VISIT: Reach out to find the ideal time to tour our Lodge, meet our current members, and get answers to any questions you may have. There is no need to feel intimidated—guests are always warmly welcomed, and we look forward to meeting you.

REQUEST A PETITION: Obtain and complete a petition from a local Mason, or download the form directly from the bottom of this page. Please note that your petition requires the signatures of several Masons. If you do not currently know any Masons, please reach out to us for guidance and assistance.

SUBMIT YOUR PETITION: Send your completed petition to our lodge by mail, in person, or via email, and please remember to inquire about any applicable processing fees. Upon receipt, your petition will be formally presented to the lodge at our upcoming stated meeting.

Now that the lodge has your petition, these are the actions you can expect the lodge to take:

THE INVESTIGATION: The Master of our Lodge will assign a committee of three members to conduct your interview and review your background. These investigators may request to visit you in your home. While they are required to ask a standard set of questions, they may also explore additional topics. Always be completely honest with the investigators. No Mason is perfect, and we certainly do not expect our petitioners to be either.

THE VOTE: The investigating committee will present its completed reports to the lodge. These documents, along with the official recommendation, are read aloud during a stated meeting. Following this, the Master of the lodge will call for a vote on your petition. Eligible members will then cast their ballots, and the final outcome will be formally announced to the assembly.

Once the vote concludes, a lodge member will contact you with the results. If the ballot is favorable, they will coordinate with you to schedule your degree and provide the necessary next steps.
